Cacheopedia

M-T-P wrote a great blog post on a new site he found called Cacheopedia. It is basically a WIKI site on geocaching that everyone can contribute too.

This is a site to watch!

Thanx John

Geocoin Mania

Seems like geocoins are gaining in popularity. It is amazing how many different ones that are out there. We actually own 3 coins, two Connecticut coins and one personal coin by JeepMTJ. This palls in comparison to the collections that others have accumulated. Many people have hundreds of coins in their collections. There is even a web site called CoinTracking.com where you can see what coins people have in their collections and see what coins they are seeking and what coins they have available for trading. A search on Ebay retrieved 445 coins up for bids. I didn't check all the pages, but I saw one coin that had a current bid of $59. That is quite a lot for a coin that is probably originally cost less than $10. Sounds like an expensive hobby, but hey maybe if you wheel and deal the right coins you just might be able to make a few dollars to spend on geocaching equipment like a new GPS or snowshoes or some other gear for the trails.

Geocoins can bring us closer together

The geocaching community is really a close knit family. JeepMTJ, a geocacher in Germany read our blog and somehow we connected on Frappr. It resulted in us swapping geocoins. We got one of his personal Jeep geocoins that we really wanted as owners of a brand new Jeep. He got one of our Connecticut geocoins. We simultaneously sent them via mail and they arrived the same day. There was never a question of trusting the other person to send the respective geocoin even though we had only met virtually a few days earlier. Why can't people interact this way in the real world?

We would like to thank all of the people we have met in person and virtually that are part of the Geocaching community for helping us to grow and give us new hope in humanity. In short; Geocachers are truly wonderful people.
