Is Geocaching a fad or a phenomena

Looking at the Geocaching home page I noticed that there are now over a quarter of a million active geocaches. In fact there are 250,558 caches in 221 countries.

Phew - are we behind in our finds!

Yes, but I've been finding that a lot of caches are now located at the entrances to subdivisions, the edge of shopping mall parking lots, etc.. When I first started geocaching, it was more about nice views/areas. I get disappointed when my GPS leads me to the edge of a gated community, and I have to search through hedges to located the cache.

I am preparing a post about hiding geocaches. In it I ask a series of questions to really make people think about what to hide and where. I doubt that it will eliminate the caches that Bryan described, but hopefully it will get a few people to think about the hide and why they are hiding it.
